Colorectal Cancer Surgery

If you’ve been diagnosed with a serious colorectal disease, you want the most advanced and effective medical care available. State-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities. The latest drug therapies. Leading-edge surgical techniques. At Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, our skilled colon and rectal surgeons provide all that, and more.

What is Colorectal Cancer?

Cancer is assessed and treated using the latest in diagnostic and surgical techniques.

Our specialized approach includes:

  • Sphincter saving surgery – our unique surgical techniques and multidisciplinary approach help many patients with low-lying rectal cancer avoid a permanent colostomy, or "bag."
  • Genetic counseling and testing – thirty percent of colorectal cancer is hereditary. Penn State Hershey Medical Center offers genetic counseling and testing aimed at helping identify cancer risk to the patient and his/her family.
  • Collaboration – our colon and rectal surgeons work closely with specialists in Oncology and Radiation Therapy to maximize the chance for cure. We team with the patient’s family physician to provide integrated care.

Our surgeons are board-certified in colon and rectal surgery and have been providing treatment to patients in central Pennsylvania for over ten years. They specialize in the ileal pouch anal anastomosis for ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis; sphincter saving colorectal cancer surgery; anorectal physiology; laparoscopic colectomy; the management of complicated inflammatory bowel disease and fecal incontinence.
