Application Procedure


A preliminary application must be submitted via AMCAS by the standard deadlines. Upon receipt of the completed AMCAS application, eligible applicants will receive a secondary application from Penn State via email. The deadline for completed secondary applications and letters of support is January 15; however, keep in mind that the interview process may begin as early as October.

Applications are screened by the members of the Medical Scientist Training Program Steering committee. Final decisions for interviews and admission are made by the Steering Committee in consultation with the Medical Scentist Training Program Directors.

Letters of Recommendation

The College of Medicine is only accepting letters through the AMCAS letter system. You must send, or have sent, your letters directly to AMCAS.  Please reference the website above or call AMCAS at 202-828-0600 for further clarification.

Applicants who are not invited to interview for or accepted to the MD/PhD Program are considered for our regular medical school admission as long as applicants meet the medical school's requirements.
