The Inaugural Chocolate Tour – October 1, 2011
 
The Inaugural Chocolate Tour, to raise awareness about the disease and funds, to support cancer research at Penn State, to find the cure, took place on Saturday, October 1, 2011.
 
With events ranging from a 6 mile fun run/walk, 5, 25, 30 and 65 mile cycling events, participants enjoyed the beautiful countryside of Central Pennsylvania and visited the historic chocolate towns of Hershey, Lititz and Elizabethtown. Runners, walkers and cyclists, from as far away as Michigan, Connecticut, South Carolina, Delaware, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and Virginia joined Pennsylvanians in large numbers, to support fundraising efforts at the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, making the event a huge success with over 860 people participating.
 
The Chocolate Tour Fundraising Committee would like to thank participants, volunteers/volunteer organizations(Kiwanis and Lions Club of Lititz), donors, corporate/community sponsors (Cargill/Wilbur, Life Technologies, Fisher Scientific, Comfort Inn, George D. Boyer & Sons, Hershey Center for Applied Research, VivoPharm, PenForGel, Penn State Hershey Melanoma Center and the Knights of Columbus - St Joan of Arc Hershey) and supporters (Hershey Foods, M&M Mars, UTZ and Eppendorf) for their support and help in making the 2011 Chocolate tour an outstanding success.
 
We are excited to announce that the 2012 Chocolate Tour is already in its planning stages. The 2012 event will have something for everyone including, 8, 35, 65 mile cycling events, 6 mile fun run/walk event and, a newly added full relay marathon, that will allow teams of 8 participants each to compete.
