Nursing Awards

Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP)

Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center was recognized by HAP for the Community Benefit Award.  Each year HAP honors innovation, creativity and commitment to patient care through an annual Achievement Awards program, which showcases hospital and health system best practices.  In 2013, PSHMC was among 19 winners selected from 131 entries.

Nursing leadership worked with PSHMC's center for nutrition and activity promotion to partner with school nurses in the Lebanon School District to complete required health assessments for kindergarten through high school students.  Over 100 nurses from the medical center partnered with 12 school nurses to complete over 3,000 screenings in 2 days.  These health assessments identified children who were overweight and/or obese, were in need of glasses or follow-up hearing evaluations, and who had the diagnosis of scoliosis.

Nursing Community Service Award

The Nursing Community Service Award is sponsored by the Association of Faculty and Friends (AFF). It recognizes outstanding commitment to community service by nursing employees of the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Congratulations to Tracy Sinopoli, BSN, RN, CNRN, Float Pool Nurse Manager, for receiving the 2013 Nursing Community Service Award.

Tracy demonstrates and applies our Magnet values daily in her practice.  She is an active member of the Community Outreach Advisory Board and the Health Education Task Force for the Community Health Needs Assessment.  She has taken the lead on several community service projects, including the Pennsylvania Farm Show where she educates the public with "Know Your Numbers".  Tracy participated in the Farmer's Market in Hershey, where many of the farmers, shoppers, and children know her by name and ask for her when she isn't present.  Many nurses have commented that they have so much fun doing a community event with Tracy, and they sign up to help again!
