Emergency Department

We are designated as a Level I Regional Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics, treating over 58,000 patients annually.

  • 19% of patients are admitted to the hospital.
  • Approximately 25% of cases are pediatric (under 18 years of age).
  • We average 200 trauma resuscitations per month.
  • General patient acuity is high, with a diversity of challenging disease and injury processes.

We have 2 trauma/resuscitations bays, 1 state of the art psych holding room, 6 pediatric friendly beds, 10 private waiting rooms, 9 rapid physician directed queuing rooms and 37 general medical/surgical rooms.

Ratios range from 1 nurse to 4 medical/surgical patients to 2 nurses for a level one trauma patient.

We have a variety of schedules including 8,10 and 12 hour shifts. Weekend commitments range from every other weekend to every 6th weekend. No rotation from day to night or day to evening required.

In addition to an intensive clinical orientation, all nurses must complete training in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, trauma nursing, and several other exciting programs that are unique to the emergency nursing environment.

High positive energy, quick critical thinking and excellent assessment skills are what we look for in the nurses who join our dynamic team. Basic Life Support and advanced cardiac life support are required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Pennsylvania trauma Nurse credentialing are a plus. Emergency nursing experience is preferred, although those with appropriate experience will be considered. Pre-hospital experience is helpful.
