Goals and Expectations

Students will attend Pediatric Rheumatology clinic and, when appropriate, Adult Rheumatology clinic throughout the week.  They will attend the weekly Friday case conferences for which they will prepare 1-2 case presentations over the course of the rotation.  It will be optional for the residents to attend the outreach clinics which take place 1-2 times per month (York, Lancaster, Camp Hill, Kingston, and State College).  It will be the responsibility of the student to notify the attending of scheduling conflicts (vacations, interviews, etc) at the start of the rotation.

Primary Goals for this Rotation

  1. Distinguish malignancy and musculoskeletal infections from rheumatic disorders based on physical exam, lab, and radiographic findings.
  2. Recognize JIA, Spondyloarthropathy, Lupus and Dermatomyositis.
  3. Appreciate the risk of uveitis in various childhood rheumatic diseases.
  4. Recognize common conditions presenting with musculoskeletal pain which do not require referral to a subspecialist.
