Surgical faculty involvement starts with first year medical student lectures and preceptorships in the second year problem based learning curriculum. Extracurricular exposure to surgical faculty and to careers in surgery is promoted through the Surgery Interest Group and quarterly sponsored web casts of live surgical procedures. Clinical surgical rotations, one on one preceptorships, and acting-intern (AI) rotations occur in the third and fourth clinical years. Faculty members serve as mentors and counselors for students wishing to pursue careers in the various surgical disciplines.
Medical Students may also work with faculty members as sponsors of their Medical Student Research Projects (MSRP).
